What do you think about the worlds body image?
by on May.14, 2009, under General
Vouge displays runaway pictures of super-slim girls with bones protruding from under their skin, meanwhile Seventeen and Cosmogirl! promote health, but the girls in the workouts clearly have hipbones not hips, and clavicals, not shoulders. Even health magazines are telling you slim down with pictures of thinner people. Marilyn Monroe used to be the figure of beauty and nowadays its Nicole Richie or Keira Knightly(who appears to have lost major lbs after the first Pirates movie) Girls are dropping 5, 10, 20, 30 pounds even, left and right! Do you think this new trend is going to die down? If so, when? What do you think about the "perfect body" that has bones sticking out at every angle? Do you agree?
By the way, I can relate to any anorexics, bulimics or people with eating disorders. I've been through anorexia, bulimia and then BED– I know totally freaky. But yeah.

What do I tell a friend with a body image question?
by on May.02, 2009, under General
I have a friend who's almost 19 and nearly 6 ft tall. She think's she's fat and is about 160 lbs. She keeps coming to me and asking for advice. I'm a little worried she might have a body image problem. I don't think she's fat, but I can guess being that tall and a girl would probably have it's own set of problems. She's great at things like volleyball and sports, but she keeps telling me how she never feels good enough. Whenever I ask her things like, "good enough for who?" She just shurgs….. I don't know how to respond to that: maybe she doesn't want me to?
She picked the worst person to come to when she asked me. I'm horrible with this type of stuff. At the same time, I don't want anyone to unjustly suffer. I don't know much about the topic, but I understand that body image stuff can lead to eating disorders, which are bad news…..
Question #1
Is she fat at 5'11 ish and about 160lbs?
Question #2, 3
If she is, then what can I do to help?
If she isn't, then what can I do to help?
My distorted body image is getting out of hand?
by on Apr.28, 2009, under General
i have struggled with eating disorders [ anorexia, bulimia, binge, and chew&spit ] for just over a year now.
i know that i have a distorted body image, but it often overcomes me and i take it as reality. It calmed down for awhile, but recently its been getting bad.
like i will see myself obese, but then i blink and i will see myself as a skeleton [ which i know i am definately not ]
i cant help it, but sometimes it brings me to tears.
how can i control my image? or how can i know reality from distortion?
ok look. i never got super thin. and i am NOT proud of my eating disorder. it screwed me over and i cant get out of it now. ya i know there are starving people in Africa. EVERYONE knows that. its not like i can just stop my eating disorder. it doesnt work like that.

Body Image?
by on Apr.02, 2009, under General
I have to write a paper on Body Image, and I've decided to focus on what causes eating disorders, what causes negative self-images, why the constant dieting? Is it the media? Friends, family, wanting to be in control of your body? I know for everyone the contributing factors are different or a combination of things. I'm having a difficult time because I have to write a total of four Body Image papers, but there's only so much I can write about with my experience and knowledge.
What are your ideas or personal experience with why body image is such a problem, especially in America?
